Dressage Flaps

Most WOW Saddle flaps can come either a traditional butt (solid) leather or a quilted padded leather version.  The padded flap gives a superior contact and feel.  The rider’s lower leg stability is much better in the padded style due to the fact that the stirrup leather does not slide as easily on this type of flap.

The padded versions and some of the other flap designs are much more time consuming and complex to make and hence the price for these styles is more.  You will see Band A & Band B pricing indicated on each flap design below.  Check with your local supplier on the two price bands.

If you ride in environment where there is likely to be a lot of sand flicking up onto the flaps or you are not particularly good at keeping your tack clean, then we recommend the butt leather version as it will put up with more abuse!

Remember, all flaps have the ability to be put on the saddle in two positions and you can change these at any time.  They are most useful when you have a young horse and you need to use a slightly shorter stirrup.   By angling the flap forward you can get more leg bend behind the knee block.  The use of the forward stirrup bar is all so useful in this case.  As the horse becomes more balanced and in self carriage the angled back position of the flap and back stirrup bar are used.

DRESSAGE EQUITANA

NEW addition to our range of dressage flaps is the Equitana with an adjustable fixed block!

The Block angle can be adjusted and the position front to back can be moved as well. This means that you can achieve the perfect position of the leg every time with different riders. We preveiwed a prototype of this flap at Equitana in Essen, Germany in March 2015 and it was very well received.

The stitch pattern is different and is like our swirl pattern. The addition of a wear strip at the bottom provides a good looking contrast. The flap construction is the same as our padded flaps so we have still kept that superior contact and feel you associate with a WOW.

DRESSAGE GIANT FIXED BLOCK

The Dressage Giant Fixed Block is a pure dressage flap.

The block is more supportive to the thigh than the standard fixed block flap. There is more block at the top of the flap so often suits those riders with shorter thighs. This flap, like its counterpart the Giant High, will really keep you in the seat when your horse is moving big!

Padded leather versions are available in two stitch styles “Classic” and “Swirl”

DRESSAGE GIANT HIGH FIXED BLOCK

The Dressage Fixed Giant Block is a pure dressage flap.

The block is cut higher to give support to the thigh but the cut seems to suit riders with standard to long legs. The thinking behind this block is to get your thigh under the block not your knee jammed in it. This is a real must if your horse is big moving. The more weight you put on the ball of your foot in the stirrup the more you can keep your weight in the seat! Sounds mad but you should try it!

"The horses are all much freer through their shoulders both on the flat and when jumping. I love the ease of adaptability to fit different horses, being able to fine tune them and make subtle changes to the balance while on board which would be impossible in a traditionally flocked saddle."

Francis Whittington

"Since using the Wow saddle I have felt a huge difference in Affinity Bay's way of going. He has the ability to come up more through the shoulder which allows him more easily to come under with his quarters and 'sit' in work such as canter pirouettes."

Daisy Coakley

"My horses are far to valuable to me in every way, to consider using something as vitally important as a saddle, for any reason other than the horse's ability to perform to the very best of its' ability& WOW and Flair are a major step forward in the way we saddle our horses."

Richard Davison

"I chose to use my jump Wow saddle to be safe and secure in such a big atmosphere, and absolutely loved getting to gallop in the main arena Championship just before the Derby! Annacotty and I qualified for the RoR Tattersalls Show Final back in may at Stafford County Show. Riding in the Final at Hickstead in his first year of retraining was a dream come true."

Horses change shape – so should your saddle

Horses change shape – so should your saddle

It is a well-known fact that horses change shape Or maybe it is not – A horse can feel a fly land – so obviously changes in the rider’s weight distribution are going to affect the horse. I suspect we just do not appreciate how little change is needed to alter the way...

Sweat marks and Flair

Sweat marks and Flair

As with most things Flair we have to think about this a little differently than the “stable myths” would have us think. For example, you are unlikely to have an even dampness from sweat under the saddle. The Flair is a soft air fill, it is designed to move with the...

Saddle fitting in your hands

Saddle fitting is complicated. Trying a lot of off-the-rack saddles will get a close fit. You can have them modified by a saddle-fitter. Better yet, you can have a saddler build a perfectly fitting saddle, which will fit when its built but cannot accommodate the...
